Columbus Beach Club Residence on Burt Lake (Indian River, Michigan)
In 2003, Hitz Design began a long time relationship with owners of an attractive summer cottage on the shores of Burt Lake. The home’s outdoor space overlooking the water included an overflow area, originating at a pre-existing artesian well located on the property.
Working to utilize the well overflow in a new and unique design, Hitz re-designed the former drain area into a visually appealing copper fountain, which appeals to the eyes and the ears. The homeowners and visitors enjoy calming sounds of the water splashing and gurgling along the copper aqueduct into the pool and over another drop to rocks below. The project further includes a surrounding slate patio and custom designed stone wall featuring a unique combination of glacial till and stacked slate. Planted native wildflowers provide a feeling of natural, unspoiled beauty surrounding the remaining lawn and waterfront.
